As SAS is readily biodegradable and is not strongly sorbing to solids e.g. sludge, exposure of agricultural soil via sludge application is limited. According REACH Regulation 2006/1907/EEC, Annex X, 9.4, Column 2 terrestrial effects studies need not to be carried out if direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely. Therefore, waiving statements for Arthropods, Terrestrial plants, Soil microorganisms and Birds are given in the corresponding chapters.

Nevertheless a 56 d earthworm reproduction study was carried out, resulting in a NOEC reproduction of 470 mg/kg dw (a.i.). In addition a 3 d nematode reproduction study with a NOEC of 939 mg/kg dw (a.i.) is available. Both studies are the basis of a PNEC terrestrial of 9.4 mg/kg dw (a.i.). This PNEC terrestrial based on measured data can be compared with a PNEC terrestrial equilibrium partitioning from aquatic data being 1.25 mg/kg dw.
