Reported statistics and error estimates:
From the comparison of the areas under the growth curves, the percentage inhibition rates are calculated for each concentration.
The expect probits for each concentration were calculated by probit transformation of the percentage inhibition rates over the regression line. This probits are the basis for the following probit analysis according to Cavalli-Sforza.

Validity according to OECDTG201 (adopted 23Mar2006):

(1) The factor of cell number measured in the control between 0 and 72 h was 42.1, which is > 16. The test fulfils this validity criterion.

(2) Evaluation of the sectional growth rates (the mean coefficient of variation of sectional growth rates calculated for the individual control replicates must not be higher than 35 %): Coefficients of variation in control replicates from 0 to 72 h were: Replicate 1: 5.9 %; Replicate 2: 7.9%; Replicate 3: 8.6 %; Replicate 4: 12.6 %. The mean of the replicate coefficients of variation in the section-by-section growth rate was:8.7%. Regarding the test period of72 h; the test fulfils this validity criterion.

(3) The coefficient of variation of average specific growth rates in control cultures was 0.7 % after 72 h, which is 7%. The test fulfils this validity criterion

Additional information

The toxicity of Alcohols, C12-14 (even numbered), ethoxylated (<=2.5 moles EO), sulfated, monoisopropanolamine salt to algae was tested in a GLP guideline study according to OECD 201. Green algae (Desmodesmus subspicatus) were exposed to nominal test substance concentrations of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32 mg/L for 72 h. The test concentrations were analytically verified using the MBAS assay (methylene blue active substances assay). All measured concentrations were >80% of nominal. Based on the algal growth rate an EC50 of 14 mg a.i./L was recorded. The EC10 (72 h) was 4.3 mg a.i./L.

In a study performed according to German standard DIN 38412, part 9, the toxicity of monoisopropanolamine (MIPA) to algae was investigated. The determined ErC50 was 32.7 mg/L (72-h ErC10 = 15.1 mg/L). The test was performed without neutralisation of the test concentrations.
