Executive summary:
According to Bayer AG, 1986, 3-chloro-p-toluidine is not ready biodegradable with 0 % biodegradation in 20 days. This study is not available but some essential and basic data - as demanded in Guidance Document R.7.b (table R.7.9 -1) - are given in the detailing BUA-Report (no. 55, December 1990). Test concentrations were 2, 4, 8, 24 and 80 mg/L and, thus, were in the asked range of 2 to 100 mg/L. The inocculum used originated from a municipal sewage treatment plant and was not artificially pre-adapted. The test was carried out according to OECD guideline 301 D (closed bottle) which is one of the recommended approaches in the above mentioned guidance document. In order to allow a weight-of-evidence approach, another Bayer AG study, 1989, was used that determined inherent biodegradation with 100 % in 7 days. This study was conducted according to OECD guideline 302 B indicated fullfilled criteria since > 60 % were degarded in 10 d.
