Thermal Stability:

The DSC-measurement in a closed glass crucible (measured at 1015 hPa) with the test item showed one endothermic effect in the temperature range 45 °C to 95 °C.

Melting Point / Melting Range (DSC):

The measurements in aluminium crucibles (measured at 1002 hPa and 1015 hPa respectively) with a hole showed an endothermic effect (melting) in the temperature range 40 – 100 °C with an onset temperature of 78 °C to 82 °C. The onset temperature is derived from the intersection of the tangent line with the highest slope of the endothermic peak with the baseline. The test item has a melting range of 78 °C to 82 °C.

Conclusions:
The test item, Stearic acid, cobalt salt, had a melting range of 78 °C to 82 °C under atmospheric pressure.

Additional information

The melting point of the test substance was determined according to OECD guideline 102 with the differential scanning calorimetry method (DSC). The test item was heated up from ambient to the final temperature (200 °C and 600 °C respectively) at a constant heating rate (10 K/min) in a defined atmosphere (nitrogen). The quantity of heat absorbed or released was measured and recorded. Aluminium crucibles with a small hole were used as containers for the test item and as empty reference crucible.

The melting range of the test item is 78 °C to 82 °C.
