Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
In this pre-guideline study from 1951, a value similar to an EC50 had been determined for 2-chlorobenzaldhyde in regard to the dicot rape (Brassica napus): 50 mg/kg [>= 50'% reduction in root length in > 50% of the seedlings) and a value similar to an EC20 in regard to the monocot wheat (Triticum aestivum): 10-50 mg/kg (>= 20'% reduction in root length in > 50% of the seedlings).
Toxicity of 2-chlorobenzaldhyde therefore may be more pronounced to dicots than to monocts.
Executive summary:

In this publication, the toxicity of 2-chlorobenzaldehyde to seedlings of the monocot wheat (Triticum aestivum) and the dicot rape (Brassica napus) is examined by the means of determination of growth reduction of the roots on agar as a substitute for soil. Root length had been compared to untreated seedlings on agar. No information on statistics is given, and results are given schematically in relation to a "larger or equal to" effect on root length in regard to more than 50% of the seedlings. A relation to EC25 or EC50 is therefore difficult.
