Description of key information

Attempts to determine the pKa experimentally have failed due to lack of detection sensitivity (see supporting study). Consequently, a calculated value for pKa of homosalate is provided in the supporting study. This is in line with expectations as the reference substance homosalate can be considered as a phenol substituted by an ester function in ortho-position. Although the ester function is slightly electron pulling, the effect on acidity of phenol is low and therefore the pKa of homosalate is expected to be slightly lower than the pKa of phenol (pKa 9.9 according to literature).
