Description of key information

Not readily biodegradable: 51.5% (CO2 evolution) in 28 days (OECD 301B)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
inherently biodegradable, not fulfilling specific criteria

Additional information

One study investigating the ready biodegradability of 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, di-C16-18-alkyl esters (CAS No. 90193-76-3) is available. The study was conducted according to OECD guideline 301B under GLP conditions using non-adapted activated sludge as inoculum (Desmares-Koopmans, 2010). After 28 days of exposure, the test substance reached a biodegradation of 51.5 % and therefore, does not meet the criterion for ready biodegradability (> 60 % biodegradation on day 28), although it shows moderate biodegradability.
