Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The boiling point of 2-butyne-1,4-diol at 101.3 kPa is 238 degrees C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Boiling point at 101 325 Pa:
238 °C

Additional information

Weight of evidence from several authoritative secondary sources indicates that the boiling point of 1,4 -butynediol at 101.3 kPa ranges from 209.89 (estimated by calculation, ISP 2010) to 248 °C at 101.3 kPa.

2-Butyne-1,4-diol decomposes relatively slowly between 160 and 200 ◦C, but at temperatures significantly above 200 ◦C violent decomposition can occur. Explosive decomposition can be caused or accelerated by alkali hydroxide, strong anhydrous acids, and

certain heavy-metal salts, particularly those of mercury (Gräfje, et. al. 2000).
