Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Photolysis is defined as the cleavage of a chemical bond upon absorption of light energy.
Pure potassium bromide is a white (i.e. colourless) crystalline substance
This inorganic compound will dissociate in water to the potassium cation and the bromide anion.
KBr -> K+ + Br-
Aqueous solutions of potassium bromide do not exhibit any absorption in the visible light spectrum
As neither pure potassium bromide nor aqueous solutions of potassium bromide exhibit any absorption in the visible spectrum of light, photolysis will not take place.
