Abiotic degradation:

Since the substance is readily biodegradable, data on hydrolysis is not required in accordance with Annex VIII of REACH. However, the test substance was shown to be hydrolytically stable with a half-life equal to or greater than one year at pH 4, 7 and 9 at ambient temperatures. Abiotic degradation is therefore considered to be of limited relevance for the environmental fate of this substance.

Biotic degradation:

Based on a number of valid studies, the test substance was shown to be readily biodegradable with degradation ranging from 63 -95% within 28 d. The test substance is therefore expected to rapidly degrade in the environment under aerobic conditions without formation of persistent degradation products.

Biodegradation in water and sediment:

In a continuous activated sludge (CAS) test, a total mean removal of 99.998% and 0.016 to 0.023% removal via adsorption to sludge was observed after 40, 57 and 58 d respectively. This demonstrated that the test substance biodegrades almost completely in conventional biological waste water treatment plants.

Biodegradation in soil:

A biodegradation study resulted in 64% biodegradation in a loam soil at Day 70, with a DT50 value of 40 d.
