Additional information

The relevant part of the submission item Guanidine carbonate is the Guanidine (CAS 113-00-8) as discussed in the section on Environmental fate and pathways above. It is present as the Guanidinium kation (see section Dissociation constant). The carbonate, is considered negligible for the environmental assessment and disregarded in the following discussion.

However the fugacity profile of Guanidine excludes pulmonary clearance, accumulation in air breathing biota is unlikely due to the lack of lipophilic species. The natural occurrence in plants, which was shown before industrial contamination can be expected, and its formation and excretion during the human nitrogen metabolism (see section Environmental fate and pathways) supports this assumption. No concern for bioaccumulation in terrestrial food chains and no hazard for air breathing organisms due to biomagnification are considered.
