Each of the fumigant mixtures and each individual component were administered in single oral doses to groups of male and female rats by stomach tube as a suspension in corn oil using small amounts of acacia. - It is apparent from the data in Table 5 that carbon tetrachloride is the least toxic and that ethylene dibromide is the most toxic material. Ethylene dichloride and Mixtures 75 and EB-5 have almost identical acute oral LD50 values. Mixture EB-15 shows an intermediate oral toxicity between ethylene dibromide and the other mixtures, as would be predicted. However, for each mixture the "observed" LD50 is greater than that "expected" by calculation.
