Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In two acute tests on daphnia consistent results were obtained with EC50 values of about 3.2 mg/L (above maximum water solubility).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Fresh water invertebrates

Fresh water invertebrates
Effect concentration:
3.2 mg/L

Additional information

The use of organic solvents may explain that the the toxicity values were above the maximum water solubilty of approximately 1 mg/L.

The results provide evidence that carbazole is not acutely toxic to daphnia within the range of its water solubility.

A third limited single-dose study (Newsted et al. 1987) indicated that carbazole is not phototoxic to daphnia.
