First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Move exposed person to fresh air. In case of indisposition
seek medical advice.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse with plenty of water. If irritation occurs, seek
medical advice.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with soap and water.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Symptomatic treatment. In case of indisposition seek

medical advice.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water, dry powder, foam, carbon dioxide.

Product arising from burning: Combustion products may contain carbon and other
derivatives.

Protective equipment: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear protective clothing (dust mask, safety goggles and
impermeable gloves).

Solids: Sweep up (wet powders with water) and place in
suitable containers for disposal.

Liquids: Absorb using an adequate absorbent (eg. kiesel-gur,
sand, saw dust, kieselgel), collect and place in suitable
containers for disposal.

Dispose of waste material in authorised incineration

facility.

Handling and storage

Handling: Observe the usual precautions for handling chemicals. Under
normal conditions, the substance will be handled in a closed
system. However, avoid inhalation of dust and wear dust
mask or airline respirator. Use equipment for handling
powders or other appropriate engineering controls.


Avoid eye and skin contact and wear safety goggles and
impermeable gloves. Take precautionary measures against
static charges.

Storage: The substance should be stored in well sealed and secure
containers in adequate rooms at room temperature. Avoid
residues outside the containers.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Fibre drums a 135 kg(300lbs); size for larger amounts not

fixed yet.

hygiene practices.


A study was performed to determine:

-Minimum Explosible Concentration (MEC)

-Explosion Severity

-Minimum Ignition Energy (MIE) of a Dust Cloud in Air

-Minimum Autoignition Temperature (MAIT) of Dust Cloud

-Hot-Surface Ignition Temperature of Dust Layers

-Limiting Oxidant Concentration (LOC) to Prevent Ignition


Dust explosibility testing showed that the BMSC materials
should be considered a combustible dusts. They present a
fire and deflagration hazard when dispersed and ignited in
air. The MEC & MIE of the materials are in the very low
range, therefore, dust cloud could ignite easily when in
contact with electrostatic discharge and other ignition
sources.


The BMSC dust materials showed high maximum pressure output
and rate of pressure rise (Explosion Severity) when tested
according to ASTM E1226-00 "Standard Test Method for
Pressure and Rate of Pressure Rise for Combustible Dusts."
Explosion venting and/or other protection devices should be
installed in the areas where the materials are utilized to
prevent injury to personnel and damage to equipment.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Normal application results in the consumption of 100% by
irreversible binding in the polymer matrix. Therefore,
recovery/recycling of the substance is not possible.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not suitable for deposit in landfill site.
