Additional information

Appearance

PSOA is a white pasty liquid with a product specific odour.

Melting point

The melting point of the test item PSOA was determined in accordance to OECD guideline 102 and EU-method A.1. The test item showed a melting range, no melting point in line with its composition. The melting range was determined as: -48.1 to -31.7 °C (225.1 to 241.6 K).

Boiling point

The boiling point (under decomposition) of PSOA was determined with 100.2 °C (100.0 - 100.3°C) in accordance to OECD guideline 103 and EU-method A.2. The test item showed signs of decomposition at this temperature.

Density

The density of the test item PSOA was determined in accordance to OECD guideline 109 and EU-method A.3. It was calculated as 1.0484 ± 0.0000g/cm3 at 20 ± 0.2 °C, which is the mean of two values.

Partition Coefficient

The partition coefficient was determined according to EU Method A.8, resulting in a log Pow for the main components of PSOA (Peroxy sulfonated oleic acids) of <= 3.78.

Water solubility

The water solubility of PSOA (Peroxy sulfonated oleic acids) was determined according to EU Method A.6, resulting in a water solubility that is higher than 43.8 g/L (95 % confidence interval) at 20 °C +/- 0.5 °C using the flask method. Thus, the test item was considered very soluble in water.

Surface tension

The surface tension of PSOA (Peroxy sulfonated oleic acids) was mesured according OECD 115 and EU A.5 using the plate method.

The surface tension of an aqueous solution of PSOA was determined as 32.91 ± 0.16 mN/m at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C. Based on these Results the substance is a surface active substance.

Flash point

The flash point of PSOA (Peroxy sulfonated oleic acids) was measured in a closed cup according to EU Method A.9, OPPTS 830.6315 and UN Manual Test Methods 32.4. Two independent determinations were performed. Flash points of 62.5 °C and 66.0 °C were measured; decomposition and strong foaming were observed after measurement. The lower flash point of 62.5 °C is used for safety reasons.

Explosive Properties

Explosive Properties of test item PSOA were investigated in accordance to EU method A.14.

No signs of an explosive reaction could be observed in any of the tests. Therefore, the test item PSOA (Peroxy sulfonated oleic acids) is considered as “not explosive under the conditions of method EU A.14”.
