Additional information

2-Methylbutyl acrylate has an experimentally determined log octanol-water partition coefficient of 2.9. We have proposed adaptation (by omission) of the data requirement for bioconcentration in aquatic organisms based on column two of Annex IX (testing need not be conducted if, e.g. log Pow<3). 2-MBA has a calculated log Koa (based on molecular weight, water solubility, vapour pressure, and log Kow) of 4.31, which is less than the value log Koa > 5 for which biomagnification is predicted to occur in many mammals (as per Chapter R7.10.3.4, Other indications of bioaccumulation potential, of the Guidance on Data Requirements). Furthermore, acrylates are extensively metabolised in vivo. 2-MBA is not expected to bioaccumulate in aquatic or terrestrial organisms.
