Endpoint:
viscosity
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2013
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Study performed according to international guidelines but not under GLP and with some lack of details.
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
reference to other study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Test Guideline 114 (Viscosity of Liquids)
Deviations:
not specified
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
rotational viscometer (dynamic)
Temp.:
20°C
Parameter:
dynamic viscosity (in mPa s)
Value:
2.82
Remarks on result:
other: shear rate = 583.1 s-1
Temp.:
40°C
Parameter:
dynamic viscosity (in mPa s)
Value:
1.87
Remarks on result:
other: shear rate = 583.1 s-1

Measured values at different shear rate

The results obtained at 20°C were the following:

Viscosities of the test item measured at 20°C:

Shear rate (1/s)  Viscosity (mPa.s)
 583.1  2.83
 971.6  2.76
 1610  2.715
 2705  2.73

The results obtained at 40°C were the following:

Viscosities of the test item at 40°C:

Shear rate (1/s)  Viscosity (mPa.s)
 583.1 1.86
 971.6  1.88
 1610  1.88
 2705  1.91

The viscosity was constant at all shear rates at both temperatures. The test item was thus considered to be a Newtonian fluid.

Conclusions:
The dynamic viscosity of the test item at 20°C and 40°C ranged between 1 to 100 mPa.s at a shear rate from 583 to 2705 s-1.
The test item was considered to be a Newtonian fluid.

The dynamic viscosity of (-) CAMPHOLENIC ALDEHYDE was determined to be:
- 2.82 mPa.s at 20°C ± 0.2°C at constant shear rate of 583 s-1,
- 1.87 mPa.s at 40°C ± 0.1°C at constant shear rate of 583 s-1.
Executive summary:

The determination of the viscosity was performed in accordance with OECD Guideline No 114 “Viscosity of liquids” (October 2012) and with Analytical Method DRT 5230 “Determination of dynamic viscosity with a rotary viscometer Haake VT550 or Rheolab QC”.

The dynamic viscosity of (-) CAMPHOLENIC ALDEHYDE was determined to be:

- 2.82 mPa.s at 20°C ± 0.2 °C at constant shear rate of 583.1 s-1

- 1.87 mPa.s at 40°C ± 1 °C at constant shear rate of 583.1 s-1

The test item was considered to be a Newtonian fluid
