Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

No other signs of systemic toxicity then a slightly reduced activity 30 minutes after the 50% application. N-methylaniline did not induce biologically relevant increases in the 3H-thymidine incorporation, the lymph node weights or ear weights. In some cases responses were statistically significant but this was not dose related or biologically significant. Thus it was concluded that N-Methylaniline (NMA) did not exhibit a skin sensitizing potential in the Murine Local Lymph Node Assay.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
The key value is based on a Murine Local Lymph Node Assay (OECD 429; BASF SE, 2011) performed under GLP. This key value is supported by a review article of Uter et al. (2007) concerning human data.

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Additional information:

No data available.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The classification of the test substance related to skin sensitisation is conclusive: no classification, since N-methylaniline proved not to be sensitising.
