Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The melting point of 2-methylbut-2-ene is -133.72°C. This value can be used as read-across for isoamylene (2-methylbutene, CAS 26760-64-5).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
139.43 K

Additional information

No information on the primary source of this data or the methods used is available. However, this information is taken from a reliable peer reviewed handbook, Lide (2008) and so can be considered reliable and suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint. Most up to date source at the time. Earlier version of the source used by OECD SIDS (2005) for this endpoint. The melting point of 2-methylbut-2-ene is -133.72°C. Since isoamylene (2-methylbutene, CAS 26760-64-5) is a mixture of the two isomers, 2-methylbut-2-ene (CAS 513-35-9) and 2-methylbut-1-ene (CAS 563-46-2) and in the absence of any reliable data for isoamylene then 2-methylbut-2-ene is considered a suitable substance for read-across
