Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

An OECD 301F Manometric Respirometry test was conducted using C6-C7, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, cyclics C6 aliphatics. The test substance was 98% degraded at the end of 28 days, and 83% degraded at the end of the 10 -day window. The substance is therefore considered to be readily biodegradable

Additional information

A OECD 301F Manometric Respirometry test was conducted using C6-C7, n-alkanes, isoalkanes, cyclics C6 aliphatics (Shell 1997). This has been read across to Methylpentane. The test substance was 98% degraded at the end of 28 days, and 83% degraded at the end of the 10 -day window. The reference substance was 104% degraded, therefore the test is valid. The test substance is readily biodegradable and does not inhibit degradation. This is supported by QSAR Biowin, a predictive model for determining quantitative primary biodegradation half-lives for individual petroleum hydrocarbons.  This model uses a fragment-based approach. The model predicated n-hexane to be readily biodegradable. This has been read across to Methylpentane.
