Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX, Effects on soil micro-organisms (required in section 9.4.2) do not need to be conducted as the substance has no high potential to adsorb to soil and is not very persistent.
The substance is expected to have a low potential absorption to soil (log Koc = - 0.31, Kow method EPIWIN). Together with the high water solubility of EDDHMA-Fe (> 20 g/L) the substance is expected to be very mobile in the aqueous phase and will not adsorb to sediment and soil. Thus, no bioaccumulation in the environment is expected. According to its physico-chemical properties EDDHMA-Fe (very low Pow and high water solubility) is not expected to be distributed into soil. In view of the expected negliable adsorption of EDDHMA-Fe to soil it can be assumed that in such tests the exposure via soil does not differ significantly from that to EDDHMA-Fe in the overlaying water and that hazards resulting from uptake of soil can be excluded. Therefore, no further testing of toxicity to soil micro-organisms is needed.
