Description of key information

Three ready biodegradability studies are available. One for EDDHMA-FeNa, one for EDDHMA-FeK and one for the structurally related compound EDDHA-FeNa. The study with EDDHMA-FeNa is not valid, and the study with EDDHMA-FeK is regarded as a false positive result. EDDHA-FeNa has been tested in the OECD 301 A test under GLP according to the guideline meeting all validity criteria. EDDHA-FeNa was biodegraded 10-20% (measured as DOC removal) at day 28. EDDHA-FeNa is therefore poorly biodegradable under the test conditions. This result can be read acrossed to EDDHMA-Fe.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

Biodegradation of EDDHMA-FeNa, EDDHMA-FeK or the structurally related EDDHA-FeNa has not been shown in ready biodegradability tests. The lack of biodegradation does not mean that these substances are recalcitrant in nature because the stringency of the test procedures could account for the recalcitrance in these tests.
