Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Results and discussion

Absorption in different matrices:
The rate and extent of absorption cannot be elucidated from the data available.

Read-across justification - A document which justifies the read–across from Cashew (Anacardium occidentale) Nutshell Extract, Decarboxylated, Distilled (“Distilled Grade”) to Cashew (Anacardium occidentale) Nutshell Extract, Decarboxylated, Distillation Residue (“Distilled Residue Grade”) is attached in the endpoint summary.

The rate and extent of absorption cannot be elucidated from the data available. Local effects only were observed from an acute dermal toxicity study, and also a skin irritation and sensitisation studies. Therefore, an indication of absorption has been observed from the sensitisation study. It is likely that the skin barrier will be compromised by the irritation/sensitisation observed following application of Cashew Nutshell Extract, Decarboxylated, Distilled (Distilled Grade), and that some absorption via this route will occur.
