Additional information

The effect of SP-334 (2-(2-hexyl-decyloxy)-benzamide) on aquatic microorganisms was determined in a study by Desmares-Koopmans (1998). This test was conducted according to OECD Guideline 209 under GLP conditions. Due to its poor solubility in water (≤ 0.006 mg/L) and the impossibility of achieving a completely homogeneous solution by using a solvent, the test substance was added quantitatively to the test vessels at a concentration of 100 mg/L. Activated sludge was collected from a municipal sewage treatment plant and exposed for 30 minutes to the test substance. Oxygen consumption was measured after the exposure period for approximately 10 minutes. No inhibition on aquatic microorganisms’ respiration could be observed at 100 mg/L (nominal).

The results from a study assessing the ready biodegradability of SP-334 (Desmares-Koopmans, 1998) showed that biodegradation values in the toxicity control group were greater than 25% within 14 days. This indicates that the test substance did not have an inhibitory effect on the activated sludge organisms.

Considering the available information, it can be concluded that SP-334 does not have an inhibitory affect on the activity of aquatic microorganisms, within the range of its water solubility (≤ 0.006 mg/L).
