Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The potential of SP-334 (2-(2-hexyl-decyloxy)-benzamide) for ready biodegradability was investigated in a study by Desmares-Koopmans (1998). This test was performed according to OECD Guideline 301B, under GLP conditions. Activated sludge from a municipal sewage treatment plant was exposed to the test substance for 28 days at 20-22 °C. The CO2 generated in each test bottle was sampled on days 3, 6, 8, 10, 15, 20, 24 and 29 (by titration of precipitated barium carbonate). After 28 days, no significant biodegradadation could be observed, reaching values of 1.4% (replicate A) and 0.7% (replicate B). The results from the toxicity control (> 25% biodegradation within 14 days) show that SP-334 does not inhibit the activity of activated sludge microorganisms.

Considering the available data it can be concluded that SP-334 is not readily biodegradable.
