Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
100 mg/L

Additional information

To determine the toxicity of 1-Ethyl-3-Methylimidazolium ethylsulfate to microorganisms, a GLP study following the method laid down in OECD guideline 209 using domestic activated sludge as inoculum was performed (Notox/Goldschmidt 2005). The calculated EC50 (30 min) value in this study was >100 mg/l.
