Description of key information

When exposed to humidity of air, VOCl3 instantaneously decomposes in V2O5 and HCl, following the equation:

2 VOCl3 + 3 H2O => V2O5 + 6 HCl.

This reaction is verified weekly in MSSA laboratory by the colour change when VOCl3 is exposed to the air (yellow to dark orange).

Testing for hydrolysis is then technically impossible and scientifically unjustified: instantaneous decomposition of VOCl3 in presence of humidity of air do not allow hydrolysis testing.
