Additional information

Skin irritation

In a dermal irritation test the test substance was corrosive to the skin of rabbits according to OECD TG 404. Within the 14-day post observation period no restitution with normal skin findings at the application site were observed (Suberg, 1984).

Eye irritation

In an eye irritation test the test substance was highly irritating to the eyes of rabbits according to OECD TG 405. Within the 21-day post-observation period restitution with normal eye findings were observed (Suberg, 1984).

Justification for selection of skin irritation / corrosion endpoint:
Only one key study available

Justification for selection of eye irritation endpoint:
Only one key study available

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: corrosive

Effects on eye irritation: highly irritating

Justification for classification or non-classification

Skin irritation

Not classified under Annex I of Directive 67/548/EEC or Annex VI-1 of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008. Differing from this the irreversible damage to the skin of rabbits leads to the following classification according to Annex I of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008: Category 1C (H314: Causes severe skin burns and eye damage).

Eye irritation

Not classified under Annex I of Directive 67/548/EEC or Annex VI-1 of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.

According to the Guidance on Application of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, chapter 3.3, if a substance is classified as Skin Corrosive Category 1 then serious damage to eyes is implicit and there is no need to proceed with classification for eye effects.
