the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is readily biodegradable

Description of key information

C8-18AS Mg & TEA(CAS 85586-38-5) is hydrolytically stable under environmental conditions.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No hydrolysis studies are available for C8-18AS Mg & TEA (CAS 85586-38-5). Nevertheless, the substance is readily biodegradable and therefore hydrolysis testing does not have to be performed.

The OECD SIDS Initial Assessment Report for category of alkyl sulfates, alkane sulfonates and α-olefin sulfonates (2007) states that alkyl sulfates are susceptible to hydrolysis in hot alkaline and acidic media and hydrolyze to sulfate and the corresponding alcohol. However, under environmental conditions alkyl sulfates are considered to be hydrolytically stable.
