Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

GLP study (UV measurements) for estimation of the acid base properties, supported by calculation with a computer program.
Analytical Development Physical Chemistry, Schering AG Berlin. Study report No. A27063 (ADP 2005_062), dated 2005-04-13.
Result: Progesterone can be considered as a neutral molecule in the pH range 1 to 13.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The UV/VIS spectra of progesterone were measured at 25°C in 0.1 M HCl (approx. pH1), 0.1 M KOH (approx. pH13) and a buffer solution of pH7.

No significant spectral change was observed.

The pKa calculation with the computer program ACD/pKa DB gave no result.

Therefore, progesterone is to be considered as a neutral molecule in the pH range 1 – 13.
