Additional information

In analogy to the NTA acid the aquatic toxicity to algae was investigated with the salt Na3NTA.

The inhibitory effect of NTA was determined in a 72 hour static test with the green algae Scenedesmus subspicatus [BASF AG, 1999]. Based on growth rate the 72-hour EC50 was > 100 mg/L.

The NOEC derived from the results was 1.56 mg/L (equivalent to 1.16 mg/L NTA acid). This was considered as not biological relevant as the effects observed in the next three higher dose rates were below 10 %. Thus the EC10 of 22.8 mg/L were taken into account as lowest endpoint where no effect was determined.
