Description of key information

Disregarded data as suggested by EU risk assessment report, p.27 (due to large pH variation/lack of detailed pH documenation): EC50/96 h of 2 mg/l (calculated by probit analysis) for Selenastrum capricornutum (Prinz).
Key data: study according to TG OECD 201 and the Directive (EEC) 92/69, C 3, using Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata: EC50/72 h > 94 mg/l (estimated); NOEC/72 h = 21 mg/l; the lowest concentration where effects were observed for both growth rate and biomass was 43 mg/l (= LOEC, 72 h).
Comment in the EU risk assessment to TG OECD 201 study:
The test is well documented and valid. It should be noted that in the pH range of the test PTBBA has been completely (> 99.9 %) in its dissociated form and lower effect values could be expected at lower pH.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
94 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
21 mg/L
