Description of key information

The hydrolytic stability of gestonorone was estimated on basis of its chemical structure and of the hydrolytic behaviour of a structurally similar compound.
General Physical Chemistry, Schering AG, Berlin. Study report A02229 (APC 196/00), dated 2000-11-07.
Result: Gestonorone can be expected to be hydrolytically stable in the pH region 4 to 9 (at 25°C).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The test substance does not contain any functional group, which is susceptible to hydrolytic degradation. Thus hydrolytic stability is to be expected.

This is experimentally supported by the results of a hydrolysis study with 17-Hydroxy-1 alpha,2 alpha-methylene-4,6-pregnadiene -3,20-dione, which differs in an additional double bond in ring B and a methyl group and a condensed 3 -ring at ring A. This compound and was found to be hydrolytically stable in the pH region 4 to 9.

The same behaviour is to be expected for gestonorone.
