Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

A weight of evidence approach was chosen in order to evaluate the toxicity of C12-14AS MEA (CAS 90583-16-7) to microorganisms.

Two studies presenting basic data for C12-14AS MEA (CAS 90583-16-7) are available. A GLP test according to DIN 38412 part 8 with Pseudomonas putida using was conducted by Guhl (1991a). In this study, the growth inhibition of Pseudomonas putida was recorded after approximately 16 hours of exposure. The 16-h EC10 value was determined to be 1769 mg a.i./L (nominal concentration). The second with C12-14AS MEA (CAS 90583-16-7) was performed also according to GLP and following DIN 38412, part 27. A 30 min EC0 value of >= 3050 mg a.i./L was reported based on the respiration rate of Pseudomonas putida.

Furthermore, the read-across substance C12AS Na (CAS 151-21-3) using activated sludge from a municipal sewage treatment plant rather than only a single species as inoculum (Dutka, 1983) was chosen for th weight of evidence approach. The read-across to the structurally related category member was conducted in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5. The non-GLP test with C12AS Na was performed according to a guideline similar to OECD 209. The EC50 values of 188 and 135 mg/L (nominal concentrations) were obtained for the endpoint respiration inhibition after 30 minutes and 3 hours of exposure, respectively. The 3-hour EC50 value of 135 mg/L, being the most sensitive value, was used for the PNEC STP derivation of C12-14AS MEA (CAS 90583-16-7).
