Description of key information

The guideline followed is ASTM D3505 ("Standard Test Method for Density or Relative Density of Pure Liquid Chemicals"). This test method is a simplified procedure for the measurement of density or relative density of pure liquid chemicals for which accurate temperature expansion functions are known. It is considered that this method is suitable to obtain a reliable value of density.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Relative density at 20C:
0.866

Additional information

The density has been experimentally determined at 20°C. The tested substance is 1,4 -diethylbenzene (liquid) of purity 99.306%.

The guideline followed is ASTM D3505 ("Standard Test Method for Density or Relative Density of Pure Liquid Chemicals"). This test method is a simplified procedure for the measurement of density or relative density of pure liquid chemicals for which accurate temperature expansion functions are known. The vapour pressure of the substance is 140.52 Pa (at 25°C) or 0.00138 atm (this metthod is restricted to liquids having vapor pressures not exceeding 0.8 atm). The viscosity of the substance is 4.1 mm2/s (this method is restricted to liquids having viscosities not exceeding 15 mm2/s). It is considered that this method is suitable to obtain a reliable value of density.

In addition there are many reliable sources where a value for density is found. The results are equal and comparable.

For CSA it is decide to take the experimental value.
