Description of key information

The substance is not toxic for aquatic organisms.

Additional information

In well-conducted short-term tests on daphnids and algae no effect were reported until 100 mg/l. Microorganism toxicity was tested at 1000 mg/l with no effects recorded. For completeness sake, a Daphnia magna reproductive study on the similar substance 16470-24-9 was reported. The substance is the analogous substance dihydroxyethylamino derivative tetrasulphonated sodium salt. The result of the chronic reproductive daphnid study on the analogous substance CAS 16470-24-9 has been considered as a representative conservative analogous for the aquatic toxicity because of the higher bioavailability and higher reactivity with organic substrates. The NOEC value recorded and used also for CAS 28950-61-0 was 6.59 mg/l. Based on the existing study and considering all the studies on aquatic toxicity of the Stilbene Fluorescent Whitening Agents category it can be concluded that the substance arises no concern for aquatic toxicity.
