PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

DIDS is not considered to meet the criteria for persistence (P), as it was seen to be readily biodegradable in a good quality guideline study. QSAR models predict a BCF in aquatic species of about 1 to 45 L/kg wet weight, far below the cut-off of 2000, so DIDS is not expected to fulfil the criteria for bioaccumulation (B). A low level of aquatic toxicity is predicted for DIDS, based on several reliable short-term ecotoxicity studies on DEHS, and the substance is not classified as dangerous for human health (including not as CMR or as a STOT RE). As such, DIDS does not fulfil the criteria for toxicity (T).

It is concluded that DIDS does not meet the criteria for a PBT or a vPvB substance as outlined in REACH Annex XIII.
