Description of key information

The hydrolytic stability of nandrolone was estimated on basis of its chemical structure and the hydrolytic behaviour of a structurally similar compound.
General Physical Chemistry, Schering AG, Berlin. Study report A02187 (APC 184/00), dated 2000-11-07.
Result: Nandrolone can be expected to be hydrolytically stable in the pH region pH4 to pH9 (at 25°C).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The test substance does not contain any functional group, which is susceptible to hydrolytic degradation. Thus hydrolytic stability is to be expected.

This is experimentally supported by the results of a hydrolysis study with 4 -androstene-3,17-dione, which differs in a ketone- instead of a hydroxyl group in position17 and was found to be hydrolytically stable in the pH region 4 to 9 (at 25°C).

The same behaviour is to be expected for nandrolone.
