Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Fiebig (2009) indicates the analogue substances, 2-octyldodecanol (C20) and 1-dodecanol (C12) are unlikely to be acutely toxic to microorganisms at sewage treatment works as the NOEC was determined at ≥ 1,000 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

Two experimental studies are available for the microbial toxicity endpoint for 2-butyloctan-1 -ol. In a reliable study, Fiebig (2009) indicates the analogue substance, 2-octyldodecanol (C20), is unlikely to be acutely toxic to microorganisms at sewage treatment works as the NOEC was determined at ≥ 1,000 mg/L, based on growth inhibition, in activated sludge from domestic sewage. In a supporting reliable study, Kirch (1994) indicates the analogue substance, 1-Dodecanol, showed no toxicity in aquatic microorganisms at concentrations of >10,000 mg/l.
