Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

2 -Butyloctan-1-ol showed acute toxicity to daphnia magna with an EC50 of 0.14 mg/l (nominal). This result is in line with data available for the linear 1-dodecanol with an EC50 of 0.765 mg/l.

Experimental data on two other respresentatives of the category (2-hexyldecan-1-ol (C16) and mixture of 2 -octyldodecan-1-ol and 2 -hexyl-1-tetradecanol (C20) show no acute toxicity to daphnia up to the limit of water solubility. The effects observed for the C12 Guerbet alcohol can be a consequence of a higher water solubility of the substance with the shortest C-chain length of this category. Thus no aquatic toxicity is considered for the Guerbet alcohols with chain lengths >= C16 with an extremely low water solubility.
