Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Because of the highly anionic nature of thiosulfates and their instability in aqueous media, aquatic bioaccumulation is unlikely and testing is not considered necessary.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Thiosulfates are very polar in nature, with a correspondingly very low log Pow. Therefore bioaccumulation is unlikely and testing is formally not required. Moreover, sulfite substances are chemically unstable in the environment and under physiological conditions in biota, being prone to oxidation to sulfates.
