Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Testing of silver(I)sulfate for oxidising properties is not anticipated to be required based on a weight-of-evidence approach. First of all, long term industrial experience in handling and use of this substance does not give any indications that this substance would be of concern regarding oxidising properties. Also, metal sulfate salts are not specifically knows as oxidising compounds and are not listed in the indicative list of chemical groups associated with oxidising properties (ECHA REACH Guidance, R.7A, Table R.7.1-29). Further, standard sources, such as Bretherick’s Handbook of Reactive Chemical Hazards give no indications that silver(I)sulfate shows oxidising properties or would react violently with combustible materials. Based on industrial experience with similar compounds, silver(I)sulfate, under conditions of fire/high temperatures, would most likely decompose to metallic silver and SO2/SO3 gas, i.e. products which would not support combustion. In conclusion, experimental testing of oxidising properties of silver(I)sulfate is not considered to be required, and this substance is not considered to be an oxidising solid in the sense of hazard classification (in accordance with section 1, Annex XI of Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 (REACH)).
