Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Method A.5 Surface tension, Council Regulation (EC) No.440/2008, Published in O.J. L 142, 2008, using the OECD harmonized ring method for the measurement (Part 1.6.4.)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
47.6

Additional information

The surface tension of the test substance was measured by ring method with Surface tensiometer, type 20 (Cole Parmer).

The test substance - Tar, brown-coal, low-temp.- at apparent test concentration of 90 % of the saturation solubility of the substance in water shows corrected surface tension of 47.6 mN/m at 20°C(± 0.1 °C).

As the surface tension is lower than 60 mN/m, test substance should be regarded as a surface-active material.
