Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Acutely harmful to aquatic organisms.

Depending on local conditions and existing concentrations, disturbances in the biodegradation process of activated sludge are possible.

This aquatic toxicity assessment was based on the following data:

The LC50 value of the test substance on Leuciscus idus was determined to be greater than 10000 mg/L in a guideline study according to DIN 38 412 (BASF AG 10F0264/895305, 1990). Therefore, the test substance is considered to be with high probability acutely not harmful to fish.

The EC0 value of the test substance in Daphnia magna was determined to be 500 mg/L in a guideline study according to EU method C2 (BASF AG, 1/0539/2/89-0539/89, 1989). Based on these data, the test substance is considered to be with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic invertebrates.

The acute toxicity of the test substance on Desmodesmus subspicatus was measured in a guideline study according to DIN 38412. The recalculated EC20 value on the organisms was determined to be about 5.85 mg/L and the recalculated EC50 value was found to be 21.23 mg/L (BASF AG 2/w539/89/t72, 1990). Therefore, the test substance is considered to be acutely harmful to aquatic algae.

The EC20 value of the test item on domestic activated sludge was determined to be about 50 mg/L (based on the pure substance) in a guideline study according to ISO 8192 (BASF AG 9, KZA 1981). Hence, depending on local conditions and existing concentrations, disturbances in the biodegradation process of activated sludge are possible.
