Ready biodegradation studies (OECD 301B) were conducted on the mixed isomers of dimethyl 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate (CAS 94 -60 -0) and the trans isomer of dimethyl 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate (CAS 3399 -22 -2). In the study of the trans isomer greater than 74% degradation had occured at day 27, but due to an extended lag phase the 10 day window was not achieved. However, > 60% degradation did occur in slightly less than 12 days after 10% degradation had occurred. In a subsequent study using the mixed isomers, soil and sediment was added to the innoculum as allowed by the method in an effort to provide a more diverse microorganism population to help decrease the lag period. In that study the lag period was decreased but biodegradation plateaued at a maximum of 55% at 28 days. Both studies show a high degree of ultimate biodegradation, but based upon these results

dimethyl 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate cannot be considered as readily biodegradable under the strict conditions of the test.
