Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The most recent standard reliable study which was read across from C6 -12 alcohols contains significant and useful results. This study gave results of 83% in 26 days (OECD 301F) (readily biodegradable). in another supporting study, a ready biodegradtion of 64 - 79% (OECD 301B) was obtained for the test substance. Similarly, a ready biodegradation of 88% in 30 days and 74.6% in 28 days using OECD 301D and OECD 301B respectively was obtained for a decanol.

However, in a non reliable study, a ready biodegradation of 79% (OECD 301B) was obatined for the test substance, the study was disregarded because the inoculum was acclimated before use. The read across is justified on the basis of structural feature and similar environmental property which is common to the alcohols in this category.

The test substance is found to be readily biodegradable on the basis of available data.

In some cases the CAS and chemical identity stated refer to SDA nomenclature for this substance. in REACH substance identification it is necessary to be more specific as to the chain lengths present. Full details may be found in the CSR.
