Description of key information
With a log Kow of 2.75, butylal fulfils the criteria of REACH Annex IX, Point 9.32 to predict its bioaccumulation potential. The bioaccumulation potential of butylal is calculated with BCFBAF program (v3.01) as Log BCF of 1.483 and BCF of 30.38 L/kg.

According to REACH Annex IX, Point 9.3.2 (Bioaccumulation in aquatic species, preferably fish), the study needs not be conducted if:
– the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation (for instance a log Kow < 3) and/or a low potential to cross biological membranes; or
– direct and indirect exposure of the aquatic compartment is unlikely.
With a log Kow of 2.75, a study using animals is not justified.
The bioaccumulation potential of butylal is calculated with BCFBAF program (v3.00) as Log BCF of 1.483 and BCF of 30.38 L/kg.
Therefore, buthylal should not bioconcentrate in fish and aquatic organisms.
