Description of key information

A study was performed to determine the self-ignition temperature of didecyldimethylammonium chloride (DDAC) according to EU Method A.16.
8 cm3(2.7 g) of the test material was placed in an oven under increasing temperature up to 400 °C at a rate of 0.5 °C/min. Purified active substance (obtained via lyophilation of aqueous solution) was used in the study. Under the test conditions, no self-ignition temperature was observed up to the maximum test temperature of 403 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Due to its structural similarities of DDAC and DTDMAC it is appropriate to use the value determined for DDAC also for DTDMAC. No key value will be given, since no self ignition temperature could be determined up to 400°C.

The commercial product is a solution of the substance in a mixture of isopropanol and water. Due to the isopropanol content, this commercial product is classified as a flammable liquid.
