Auto flammability

Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the auto flammability study does not need to be conducted when preliminary results exclude self-heating of the substance up to 400 deg. Celsius. For the testing of the oxidation and melting temperatures, the substance was subjected to heating and measurements using a thermogravimetry/ differential scanning calorimetry (TG/DSC) method. 
Differential scanning calorimetry is based on the well-proven Boersma or heat flux principle in which the heat flux of a sample and a reference sample are compared. That enables to see endothermic or exothermic reaction in the sample, which occur when sample for example melts, vaporizes or when a chemical reaction occurs in the sample. TGA and DSC measurements are done simultaneously.
The results of the differential scanning calorimetry demonstrated, that no exothermic reaction capable of inducing self-heating occurred up to a temperature of 400 deg. Celsius.
