First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

General information:

Take persons to a safe place. Observe self-protection for first aid.

After inhalation:

Keep the patient calm. If unconscious place in stable sideways position. Protect against loss of body heat. In cases of sickness

seek medical advice (show label or SDS if possible).

After contact with the skin:

Remove contaminated or soaked clothing. Immediately rinse with plenty of soap and water. In the event of a visible skin change

or other complaints, seek medical advice (show label or SDS where possible).

After contact with the eyes:

Rinse immediately with plenty of water for 10-15 minutes. Seek medical advice in case of continuous irritation.

After swallowing:

If conscious, give several small portions of water to drink. Do not induce vomiting. Seek medical advice immediately and clearly

identify substance.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Any relevant information can be found in other parts of this section.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

In case of contact with water material splits off (also in gastrointestinal tract) methanol in larger amounts; therefore consider

poisoning on methanol and also observe known period of latency of several days!

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media:

water mist , extinguishing powder , alcohol-resistant foam , carbon dioxide , sand .

Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons:

water spray , water jet .

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

-

Advice for firefighters

Special protective equipment for fire fighting:

Use respiratory protection independent of recirculated air.

General information:

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Wear personal protection equipment (see section 8). Keep unprotected persons away. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Avoid

inhaling mists and vapours. If material is released indicate risk of slipping.

Environmental precautions

Prevent material from entering surface waters, drains or sewers and soil. Contain any fluid that runs out using suitable material

(e.g. earth). Retain contaminated water/extinguishing water. Dispose of in prescribed marked containers.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Do not flush away with water. For small amounts: Absorb with a liquid binding material such as diatomaceous earth and dispose

of according to local/state/federal regulations. Contain larger amounts and pump up into suitable containers. Clean any slippery

coating that remains using a detergent / soap solution or another biodegradable cleaner. Exhaust vapours.

Further information:

Eliminate all sources of ignition.

Reference to other sections

Relevant information in other sections have to be considered. This applies in particular for information given on personal

protective equipment (section 8) and on disposal (section Disposal considerations).

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Precautions for safe handling:

Ensure adequate ventilation. Keep away from incompatible substances in accordance with section Stability and Reactivity. Spilled substance

increases risk of slipping.

Precautions against fire and explosion:

Product can separate methanol. Flammable vapors may accumulate and form explosive mixtures with air in containers, process

vessels, including partial, empty and uncleaned containers and vessels, or other enclosed spaces. Keep away from sources of

ignition and do not smoke. Take precautionary measures against electrostatic charging. Cool endangered containers with water.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Conditions for storage rooms and vessels:

Make sure there is no possibility of entering the ground.

Advice for storage of incompatible materials:

not applicable

Further information for storage:

Protect against moisture. Store in original container only. Keep container tightly closed and store in a cool, well ventilated place.

Specific end use(s)

Exposure controls

Exposure in the work place limited and controlled

General protection and hygiene measures:

Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not inhale gases/vapours/aerosols. Do not eat, drink or smoke when handling.

Personal protection equipment:

Respiratory protection

In case of long or strong exposure: gas mask filter ABEK .

Hand protection

Protective gloves made of butyl rubber . Gloves suitable for up to 60 minutes' use. The selection of appropriate gloves not only

depends on the material, but also on other quality characteristics, and may vary depending on the manufacturer. Please observe

information from your glove supplier in terms of permeability and breakthrough time.

Eye protection

tight fitting protective goggles .

Skin protection

protective clothing .

Exposure to the environment limited and controlled

Prevent material from entering surface waters and soil.

Further information for system design and engineering measures

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Material

Recommendation:

Dispose of according to regulations by incineration in a special waste incinerator. Observe local/state/federal regulations.

Uncleaned packaging

Recommendation:

Completely discharge containers (no tear drops, no powder rest, scraped carefully). Containers may be recycled or re-used.

Observe local/state/federal regulations.

Waste Disposal Legislation Ref.No.(EC)

It is not possible to determine a waste code for this product in accordance with the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) since it is

only possible to classify it according to how it is used by the customer. The waste code is to be determined within the EU in liaison

with the waste-disposal operator.
